Karl Marx House

The birth house of world famous philosopher, economist, journalist and social critic, Karl Marx, features a permanent exhibition that was completely overhauled in 2018, and which examines aspects such as how Marx lived and worked, what the world did with Marx’s ideas after his death, how the democratic left remembered him and fought with him (and amongst themselves), and the relevance Marx and his ideas have to this day. But the building itself is also worth focusing on – due in no small part to its stunning garden with a bust crafted by Marx’s great-grandson Karl-Jean Longuet.

You can also meet Karl’s wife, Jenny, in person, and gain deep insights into the Marx family’s life as part of a costume tour. The Karl Marx House runs free tours for German-speaking school groups. Both options may be booked directly through the Karl Marx House, subject to availability.
